Shut Down Juvenile Hall

We believe that in order to effectively dismantle historical patterns of criminalization that perpetuate the school-to-prison pipeline for youth of color, we must challenge the root causes of health disparities and intergenerational poverty. In 2019 we joined the Reimagine Youth Justice Coalition to co-lead grassroots advocacy to shut down juvenile hall by December 2021. Following the leadership of the Young Women’s Freedom Center and Coleman Advocates, we’re strengthening our grassroots coalition to merge strategies across movements for racial, educational, economic, and juvenile justice. Community-centered research developed visions for a radical model for decriminalization in our city, identifying comprehensive outlooks on alternatives to incarceration. We’re committed to shift narratives on public safety, elevating demands to redirect public tax dollars into holistic systems of health, wellbeing, and healing for youth or color. We aim to support leadership platforms that cultivate the next generation of freedom fighters to lead this fight.
